Story and Gameplay
Like every The Sims game, the story behind the World Adventures Expansion is whatever you want to make of it, but in this case within the realm of international travel. And why not, since what sim doesn't need a vacation. Players choose from environments set Egypt, France or China, with the possibility of others via download. Similarly, gameplay follows the same well-worn path familiar to veteranThe Sims players, and easy to pick up for those coming to the franchise for the first time. Players create their sims as they like, customizing everything from physical characteristics, all the way down to personality traits, habits, etc. They can mix with other sims, build relationships, start families and even die. Because this expansion is based around travel, your sims can also discover rich, new cultures, develop brand-new skills and abilities and explore and adventure through realistic environments. New skills related to these destinations include photography, martial arts, and nectar making (a sim beverage) among others. As part of of the exotic locales available, sims can get adventurous and explore the caves and tombs of Egypt and China. Here they will put their new adventure related abilities to work as they participate in Indiana Jones like adventures full of excitement and even danger, including some not-so friendly mummies and the Grim Reaper.

Unique Simlish Soundtrack
Just as with travel, every sim has his/her particular musical tastes. With that in mind the World Adventures Expansion Pack features an all-star soundtrack of real songs, recorded by the original artists in the sims native tongue of Simlish. These tracks include:

  • Audrye Sessions - "Turn Me Off"
  • Broken Hearts Club - "Na NA NA"
  • Esmee Denters - "Outta Here"
  • Fefe Dobson - "I Want You"
  • Friday Night Boys - "Can't Take That Away"
  • Nelly Furtado - "Manos al Aire"
  • Stefanie Heinzmann - "No One (Can Ever Change My Mind)"
  • Pixie Lott - "Mama Do"
  • Madina Lake - "Lets Get Outta Here"
  • Manchester Orchestra - "I've Got Friends"
  • Matt and Kim- "Daylight"
  • Katie Melua - "If the Lights Go Out"
  • Metalkpretty - "Wake Up, Wake Up"

5 out of 5 stars Great Overall, but maybe not for everyone   June 14, 2010

I bought this game a while ago, and really love it. However, if you are into instant gratification or are not very patient, you will not like a lot of the adventure game play. The most fun parts of the game are the adventures, in my opinion. They're like fun, intricate puzzles. If you don't like that sort of thing, there are a other things the EP offers that are pretty cool too. There are a few new skills, like martial arts, photography, and wine (or nectar) making, along with others. There are plenty of cool people in any of the three new locations. There are new plants to grow and new recipes to learn.
Overall, this game is great. There are a few glitches and bugs, but none of these have caused any real problems. In a sarcophagus I assembled in my home, I summoned a mummy, not knowing it would become part of my family. I deleted it using the "moveobjects" cheat, and now it appears that it is still part of my family. Not devastating, but annoying. I really love the adventures. Although this was pretty expensive, it was totally worth it for me, and I would recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Great Expansion Pack. No Problems   June 11, 2010
Kevman (White Plains, NY USA)
Just what I think of when when I think of a good expansion pack. A great expansion pack where you can send your sims on the quest for adventure! There are no "bugs" or gliches as mentioned in some reviews (not on my computer anyways). Lots of stuff for your sims houses and yards, new traits, lifetime wishs and lifetime rewards, new skills, create-a-sim stuff and of course the best part, adventure. You can go to China, Egypt and France, which are all equally fun but diverse.

Happy simming all!

5 out of 5 stars I like it but it IS buggy   November 19, 2009

Got mine yesterday and played most of the day. You have to give the game a chance and play it for any significant length of time before deciding on whether or not you like it, simply because there IS a lot to do, only you have to do a lot of vacationing in order to do it. There's lots of hidden things that take exploring to find. LOTS of stuff to collect (money, gold, gems, relics, and more)! Lots to do (Quests, challenges, and more)! Lots of new stuff for your Sim to learn! This EP is more like a game within itself because you have to do certain things in order to get other certain things to work in order to proceed forward on your challenges.

I don't want to go into detail on what all is offered in the game because it would just spoil the surprises for everybody else who hasn't played it yet. Suffice it to say, I like it and I'm glad I got it. I think it was well worth the money. There really is a lot to do in the game, you just have to explore, look, do a lot of traveling, and be willing to do the challenges.

Also, there are bugs and glitches in the game. I've found some stuff I had purchased in France didn't make it into my inventory/backpack (the nectar rack), and one of the new bookshelves doesn't work...you can open the bookcase and add books but when you select 'read' or 'read something' the new books don't appear on the list for you to read. However, if you open the bookcase again they show up. I'm also getting thick green 'streaks' that come down from the top of the screen at an angle and end on the object (for lack of a better way to explain it) whenever I try to move objects or furniture. I don't have ANY custom content, never have. I can't delete any furniture now either for some reason..once its bought, I'm stuck with it unless a burglar comes and steals it (which happened to my old crappy bathtub luckily so I was able to get a new one to put in its place). Hopefully a patch will come out soon, but in the meantime it's not detracting from my fun of playing the game in any way, so I gave it a five star rating.

I personally feel that this is a must have EP. It really expands your Sims' world. There are even PUZZLES in the game that YOU have to figure out (albeit somewhat easy for an adult) in order for your Sim to go forward on their quests and challenges. If you get bored after only playing for a half hour, that's your own fault, you didn't play long enough to give the game a chance, nor could you have done much exploring to find the fun stuff.

I'm happy......now just need the patch so I can be even happier..lol.

Overall, very pleased.

5 out of 5 stars I Absolutely Love This Expansion Pack   November 23, 2009

When I first installed this game, it installed a patch with it. Then there was also a patch available in the launch menu. I started playing the game and when I got around to saving it. It didn't work. Turns out it was the patch and EA did fix it which is good. I love the idea of going to one of the three places and instead of just sitting there on vacation you can go on different type of adventures to search for different items or just to find out someone's opinion on something. I love the new clothes that came with the game. I'm glad that EA decided to do something a little different to this EP so people didn't think it was just a vacation pack. I like the new traits personally the photography, but I still have to figure out the taking a photo picture. I would highly recommend this game to any of The Sims 3 players. I have always been a fan of The Sims and I own all of The Sims games up to date. I gotta say that those walking mummies do creep me out a bit, but it makes the vacation/adventure more interesting. On the bright side, I have no glitches/bugs in my game which I'm probably one of the lucky ones, but in the past I have never had a problem with bugs and glitches. If I did it was because of a mod/hack I had in my game.

Anyways, I give this game a 5 out of 5. Have fun Sim Players!

5 out of 5 stars Not too shabby EA   November 26, 2009

I was reluctant to buy this EP at first. In the Sims 2 (predecessor to TS3) the Bonvoyage EP was extremely boring and my interest in the game was lost in a matter of weeks. But this new EP blew me away. The scenery is breathtaking, the missions are really fun and there are so many things that you can accomplish, from photography (which I love in real life) to kung fu, to "nectar" making. I have been playing the game since the release date and am still finding new things to do and explore. I would highly recommend this game to anyone I know.
